Local Communities Grow Their Own Local Organic Produce

Due to the risk of cancer and other diseases related to toxic chemicals in our food, soil, air and water due to pesticides, fertilizers and genetically altered foods, community members are coming together and making plans to grow their own produce and raise their own livestock for food in their own backyards.

Anna Yeisley, owner of Home Rejuvenators LLC (a local Class A Contractor Builder/Remodeling Company) is sharing her ideas with local subdivision developers about the concept of what she calls 'Sustainable Homestead Subdivisions'.

“The sad fact is real estate is a losing investment.  The moment (and several months prior to) a homeowner occupying their home, they begin a cycle of purchasing for the home that typically does not end.  The home is a liability from the beginning and continues to be liability throughout its 30-year mortgage.

This liability was once offset by increasing home value, but the burdensome liability of owning your home in today's market is not recoverable.  Not only do we pay double and triple our home’s value by the end of the mortgage due to too high interest rates, but declining home values makes buying a home a disappointing and rather unwise investment.  In a dead housing market, the interest paid on a mortgage can never be recovered through resale.
We need to come up with an investment that not only houses us but provides income to pay for itself.  Imagine owning a home in a subdivision where energy is produced through:
·         Solar Panels
·         Windmills
·         Bio diesel onsite manufacturing

Sustainable community homesteads could also be built to produce bio fuels that could fuel farm equipment and small engine transportation vehicles.  REDUCING AIR POLLUTION and REDUCING OUR DEPENDENCE UPON FOREIGN OIL.
Self sufficiency real estate utilizes in-home use of alternative fuels and energy such as bio fuel and solar energy.  LIVING EXAMPLE OF ALTERNATIVE LIFESTYLE CHANGES THAT WILL RE-BALANCE OUR PLANET AND ECONOMY.

In case of electrical outage and energy price hikes, a subdivision where homes are equipped with solar panels and wind mills can generate supplemental or alternative energy.

Imagine living in a subdivision where you see:
·         Crops
·         Orchards
·         Flowers
·         Livestock humanely cared for in a natural environment
·         Outbuildings for farm equipment and livestock

Much of the acreage would provide tilled earth plots to grow food and outbuildings that would house livestock.  Manure will be composted into soil building up soil’s ability to filter and clean water.  REDUCING WATER POLLUTION

Small Scale Production Works Best for Alternative Energy – Let’s not wait for corporate interest

These alternative energy methods work best on a small local scale.  Commercial manufacture of alternative energy just isn't profitable enough for corporate interest.  On a local, smaller scale, however, we can make alternative energy work in our favor - reducing our reliance on Middle East oil, reducing our reliance on coal, reducing our need to drill, reducing transportation costs (and the damage, accidents and calamity due to mass transit of food and livestock).  Self sustainable homesteads will help correct the imbalance of the planet.

Self-sustainable homesteads will not generate the kind of profit that fuels expansive, wasteful and greedy corporations / but self sustainable homesteads will generate a profit to ensure a nice and healthy lifestyle for dozens of families.

We don’t need corporate interest.  Corporate interest means the profit is going in somebody’s pocket, not to those who are investing in their homes and properties.  The less we depend on corporate investment the sooner we return to a real sustainable economy and constitutional political environment.

These alternative energy ideas including the manufacture of bio fuel made locally would sustain a community during natural emergency or disaster or energy or oil crisis.  A community independent upon global and national economy is a safe haven where lifestyles are healthier, closer to home and close to the Earth.  Self sustainable Subdivisions will be the most attractive real estate investment that we'll make in our lifetime.
Protection from a Crumbling Economy
A self sustainable subdivisions would be unaffected by rising food, energy and fuel costs.  This would be a real estate investment that would continue to grow as food, energy and fuel prices continue to rise due to the declining value of both home and dollar.

As prices for food sky rockets, especially natural foods made without chemicals and without commercial manufacture (as they have and will over the next several decades); homeowners will be assured of a safe and wholesome food supply.  Homeowners will have commodity to share and bargain at the same time that our economic and currency system that is failing us.

Other advantages for the homeowner and their family?  Physical exercise, fresh air, connection to the Earth and awareness of important laws of nature.  In self sustainable a community homestead 'subdivision' there is 10 or more families that share the work and responsibility of the farms, orchards and livestock.  Each Community comes with an experienced crew of organic farmers and caretakers that oversee the farm's care.

Self sustainable local communities will boost local economy.  Our local communities are hyper dependent upon members leaving their communities to travel sometimes up and beyond 100 miles just to get to work; wasting fuel and time away from home and family.  Bringing community members back home working and living in their communities, strengthens the local economy helping our counties and state pay for the schools and infrastructure that raises and protects our children.

The choice to rear and consume as food, livestock without the use of chemicals, drugs, immunizations, steroids, hormones, antibiotics or other unnatural manmade chemicals is a united choice among local citizens.  [Many citizens have donated unused land to be used for the Community Sustainable Real Estate Program sponsored by the Virginia Farm Bureau [program does not yet exist - but will be discussed at a future time].

The market for organic produce is ever increasing.  So is the market for meat and dairy that comes from animals that are humanely treated with no antibiotics, steroids, growth hormones or dangerous vaccines.  The growth in market for natural organic food has not even begun to make its presence known (sometimes due to fear of backlash from the pharmaceutical and medical industries).  Communities that grow their own organic produce and raise humanely treated, naturally fed and cared for will tap into a market of yet undeveloped source of local income.
Is our Food Supply Safe?
“I don’t want just anyone from any country touching my food.  I don’t my food irradiated, I don’t want cancer producing pesticides on my food, and I do not want genetically altered foods to be consumed by my children or theirs.  I want fresh natural organic produce and consume meat and dairy from livestock reared in a natural environment, fed foods natural to species with humane treatment.”

"With a 600% increase in autism and 20% increase in brain tumor deaths in children around the world, we should all be VERY alarmed at the contaminated state of our food supply and the overuse and overabundance of chemicals and pharmaceuticals in our water and soil."

“We want to protect the purity and safety of our food supply by producing it at home in our backyards and in our communities.”

Citizens need to take the responsibility of ensuring a natural local and untainted food supply for themselves and not trust commercial and governmental procedures to put health and safety above profit and traditional thoughtlessness regarding overuse of antibiotics, chemicals and pharmaceuticals."

“We can easily and blindly be poisoned through the foods that we consume.  The lack of true FDA regulation over food and drug companies is alarming and I don’t trust that we have a government agency that is here to protect American health.  I believe the FDA exists to promote drug and chemical manufacture, production and in my more skeptical moments, believe they are allowing the experimentation of drugs and chemicals on unwary Americans.  American children and the elderly are not being protected by the Food and Drug Administration or you would see more regulation and lawsuits against drug and chemical companies.  It is my fear that the FDA exists to protect the drug and chemical profitability by allowing them to develop more and more drugs and chemicals.”  The third highest cause of death is medical treatment!
Income for Homeowners
Community investors are beginning to see a market in self-sustainable homesteads, especially now that housing market has come to a halt.  If the State were to sponsor these programs, couldn’t the State sell the homesteads to citizens and then the State would make income from the mortgage interest and use that profit to serve its citizens?

Providing a food supply for an entire nation as well as other nations would not be possible through non-commercial agriculture such as self-sustainable homesteads and small farms.  However, the local food supply in all communities would be nicely supplemented by local food production, providing small business income and savings for homeowners.

Profit Stays Home
Keeping the profit within the local community saves money and energy.  The income derived is not only the savings of not having to buy food but there would be revenue that would come from within and from outside the community; helping meet the demand for fresh, pure natural produce, meat and dairy.
